Who We Want

We want individuals dedicated to closing the achievement gap in the Recovery School District in Louisiana – dedicated to beginning their long term teaching careers in either Shreveport or Greater Baton Rouge.Louisiana Teaching Fellows will have high expectations for their students—and themselves. At the fourth grade level, only 64% of students are proficient in math. That number drops to 55% in eighth grade. Likewise, 69% of fourth graders are proficient in reading, but only 56% of high school students are proficient in reading.1 Our community needs leaders ready to work to elevate students’ success.

We are looking for candidates who are interested in teaching in subject areas where high-quality instruction and commitment are most needed. Teaching Fellows will teach critical shortage subject areas such as math, science and special education. Some Language Arts and elementary education positions may also be available. We want people with little or no teaching experience but who are ready to enter the classroom to make a difference. There is no one profile for an ideal Teaching Fellows candidate; Fellows can span a wide range of backgrounds, bringing a diverse set of talents and skills to the program. The Teaching Fellows program is specifically designed for college graduates who may not have a degree in education, and professionals from other fields seeking an alternate route into a career in the classroom. Strong candidates are those who are committed to having a positive effect on student achievement, who display excellence through their previous endeavors, and who are dedicated to doing whatever it takes to reach and influence students—especially those in under-served areas—on a daily basis. Review the eligibility page for more details on the requirements to apply.
